On to our question …

Dear Dave,

I have 2 questions, but they’re kind of related. I’ve got 2 newish Macs & I was wondering:

What’s the best way to backup my Macs that doesn’t include Time Machine?

My Macs are running High Sierra. When I install the new OS Mojave should I do a fresh install or simply update the OS?

Best,

Confused in Chestnut Hill

Dear Confused,

If you are not a fan of Time Machine or similar backup devices, I would highly recommend you use one of the online backup options out there.  However, like anything else each has its pluses and minuses – we have some info on this topic on our website here.

If you decide to use an online backup service, we recommend Carbonite for a number of reasons, price, features and reliability.  You can get special pricing if you use our partner link here.

Regarding you OS upgrade, it’s always better to update the OS instead of doing a fresh install unless you have experience a number of software conflicts or similar issues.

If you need anything else, please feel free to reach out to me.

Dave
